New Talks
I will be speaking again this fall. I am already scheduled to talk to a Metaphysical group in Del Webb on September 27th. I am certainly available to come and talk to any group about a diversity of topics. If you would like to have me come and talk to a group, give us a call at the office (245-6169) and we can work it out!
UH OH! Recovering from Automobile Accidents: Upper Cervical Chiropractic and Massage Therapy
It can happen in the blink of an eye. Two weeks ago I was passing someone on I-75 when they abruptly turned into my lane. I had to avoid both them and the cement wall on my left and I found myself spinning out of control through heavy traffic. I had visions of multiple impacts and untold damage, but incredibly, when it was over, I was on the side of the road and no one had hit anyone else. All too often it doesn’t work that way.
Life can change in seconds. The impacts of a traffic accident can be life changing. While the accident can be over in seconds, the recovery can take a lot longer. Many patients over the years have come in for care after accidents have left them with new and sometimes frightening aches and pains.
I can realign their spines pretty quickly using the NUCCA work and this turns the nervous system back on in a balanced way, facilitating the healing process inside them. By itself, this offers tremendous relief for many who were feeling headaches, dizziness, and numbness and tingling in arms and legs. Correction of the upper cervical spine is real primary care once structures have been thrown around in an accident. Correcting the spine will promote healing and restore balance to the whole person.
At the same time, however, there is often damage to the supporting soft tissue structures around the spine such as the muscles and tendons and ligaments. Tearing of these structures occurs because of the terrific forces involved when vehicles collide at high speed and sometimes even at lower speeds. For over a decade I have worked with Carolyn Hall, LMT for rehabilitation of the soft tissues after serious injuries. Carolyn has long been a student of Aaron Mattes, a Physical Therapist in the Sarasota region who is world renowned for his work rehabilitating professional athletes of all kinds. His work , Active Isolated Stretch, is a sophisticated method of assessment and therapy for the myriad effects of trauma, or as we say, issues in the tissues. Carolyn has several other tools that she works with too including the use of the Anatomy Trains model formulated by Thomas Myers. Under Carolyn’s discerning eye and knowledgeable touch, she has long been a wonderful asset, bringing people back to life and function, not only relieving the knots and spasms she finds but also teaching people about themselves and how to take care of themselves in the future. More than one person has noted that while the effects of the accident they were involved in were tough for them, the knowledge they received from Carolyn over time was a blessing in disguise and improved their life way beyond just recovering function.
Many times, people come into the office for problems that may stem from such accidents that happened years and even decades ago. Not everyone requires extensive tissue work to recover, but when they do, we have a wonderfully effective way to overcome them.
On an added note, many of you are aware we do not accept health insurance as payment up front, but you may not be aware that we do accept Personal Injury insurance. Otherwise we would not be able to take care of our own patients when they are involved in an accident.
I hope you never have to use us in this capacity, but if you do, please know we are ready able and willing to help you return to health as quickly as possible.
Are You Holding Your Adjustment?
When you come in to see me I will often ask you if you are holding your adjustment. Some of you know and others don’t. Everyone has their own signs and symptoms of being out of adjustment. Some people feel ‘fine’ and then they don’t. An acute pain or ache is an obvious way to know you are out of adjustment especially if it lasts for two or three days. There are many ways that people recognize that they are out of adjustment. They may find that allergies return. Their digestion is disrupted, they may have headaches or other pains, but it might be dizziness or even emotional depression.
Sometimes a new ache or pain arises and someone will come in and not know if it is related to the adjustment or not. Generally, if the symptom lasts for a few days, it is wise to come in and get checked. I often hear people say that they would have come in sooner but they were having pain in a different area of their body and they didn’t know if it was related. Signs and symptoms will come and go. If you are out of adjustment however, the things you are feeling will gradually become more intense and last more of the time.
Our bodies do the best they can with what they have to work with. Being out of adjustment means that the nervous system is not working in a balanced and proper way. The nervous system is the great communications network that links all the parts of our body together. When the nervous system is being interfered with, everything will be affected. This is why I believe that upper cervical adjustments are primary care for human beings! So many of the pills and medications that people take for their problems are related to being out of upper cervical adjustment. I cannot tell you how many times I have heard people tell me they have been able to wean off numerous medications once they began to get adjusted. Drugs turn life off, but the NUCCA adjustment turns life back on. In these stressful times, we need all the energy and health we can muster. NUCCA adjustments bring more life to each of us and help us to handle the stresses that life hands us. It is cost effective to prevent problems before they become more serious and require more invasive assistance.
Getting checked for alignment three or four times a year is definitely cheaper than falling into the seemingly endless medical morass of endless visits and expensive tests and examinations. Medicine is there when we truly need it but staying healthy keeps your dollars in your own pocket and its also a lot more fun!
